Cairns is a fantastic little city that is a gateway to some of Australia's beautiful natural sights. There are many tours on offer from Cairns to see the Daintree Rainforest or the Great Barrier Reef. The nightlife is good and there are plenty of restaurants and bars to refuel after big days of activities.

Cairns is both a hub of activity and a gateway to adventures within a few hours of travel.
It has an ambient climate with all the services and culture you’d expect of a much bigger city. There is so much to do in cairns and the public transport system is both convenient and well run.
There are so many adventures to be had on the Great Barrier Reef, Green Island and Fitzroy Island. Mission Beach, The Atherton Tablelands and The Daintree are all a day trip from Cairns.

Positive: Skyrail and historic train, nature, pool in Cairns, boardwalk, Botanical Gardens (absolute highlight!!!). Don't miss Emerald Creek Ice Creamery - lots of varieties and very yummy! Dundee's restaurant offered outstanding food and an incredible venue with a massive fish tank to look at while dining, it's pricey, but worth it. The Daintree is as exciting as ever. Solar Whisper Croc Cruise was really good. Daytrip to Atherton Tablelands was lovely. Rusty's market is a must! Only downside of Cairns: dining is fairly expensive in general.

We went at the start of the dry season.
We went at the start of the dry season. The weather was very warm but still humid.
Cairns central has great public facilities.
The swimming lagoon is fantastic for all ages and has surf lifesavers in attendance. BBQ cookers all along the Esplanade, excellent playgrounds.
Muddy Waters in particular, the kids went crazy.
Of course you go for the reef trips and the train trip and the Skyrail up to Kuranda village. A lovely day out in beautiful rainforest.
Port Douglas and Mossman are a drive north if you have the time, they are another must see in this scenic part of north Queensland.
A drive up onto the Tablelands opens up a different part of the area. Natural and historical attractions. It's worth the drive.

A worn and sadly lacking site.
A worn and sadly lacking site. It has all the hallmarks of investors who rake in the money but don't spend any money or maintenance and improvements. They could raise their star rating if they cared to invest in renovation., The lady at the front desk was very friendly;y. What a shame she has to represent such a sad venue.
We were met by Jackie and shown to the apartment. She took time to show us everything. A great studio apartment that was exceptionally clean and well equipped for any level of self catering if needed. The Nespresso machine was an added bonus. Located just minutes from Cairns Central shopping centre and the Cairns railway station. An easy ten to fifteen minute walk and we were on the waterfront where there are lots of great restaurants. Perfect accommodation we will definitely use again. Thanks Jackie
Superb room and bathroom, all modern, well maintained and clean, hotel is right next to the marina and the lagoon / esplanade
But highlight is undoubtedly the friendly family team running the hotel. The manager Peter couldn’t have done any more to make my stay more enjoyable - from a fuss-free early check-in, to booking all my planned activities for me (at a discount - including a scuba trip to the Great Barrier Reef).
Thanks again for a fantastic stay - nowhere else I would book in Cairns.
Really spacious apartments, we were lucky enough to get to stay in 2 of them. The beds were extremely comfortable and the pillows even more so.
Management were very kind, helpful and responsive. We put in more than one request and each time it was dealt with promptly and efficiently and nothing was too much.
Location was very good, close to cairns central shopping centre and a short walk to the esplanade and city centre.
The pillows were extremely comfortable and the bed was comfy also. The Bathtub was Amazing and I Wish I had used it more often. If the Hotel was Closer to the Shops I would have stayed throughout my visit to Cairns but with a back injury walking back and forth was Impossible. The cleaner for my room (Melissa) was very helpful and polite and was a delight to talk with. .....
We enjoyed our stay there. Love the location of hotel, walking distance to the Esplanade, city center and Cairns Central. Had a drink at Arte Wine bar and the staff there were friendly. The King deluxe room we had was lovely, with good views, clean & tidy, a variety of teas & a Nespresso coffee machine and most importantly the bed was firm and comfortable.
Wonderful location and great views from our 9th floor room. We were also impressed with the fact that there were 3 laundries and even a post box.
The esplanade with its many restaurants was nearby as was Woolworths, which was just around the corner.
When next we are in Cairns, we hope to stay at this hotel again.
Spacious room with balcony, sea view and hot buffet breakfast that's on the esplanade, has free parking and is a pleasant walk from all you need in Cairns. It's great. Only down side is that it's an old, large hotel that you could say needs modernisation but that was reflected in the price. We would use it again.
Pool was great, sandy beach for the young ones plus swim up bar for the adults, it was big enough to accomodate everyone. Location of hotel was within walking distance to all attractions and the Cairns Esplanade. The rooms were spacious and serviced daily and the staff were super friendly and helpful.
The location of the hotel was excellent, walking distance to everything in Cairns. The view of the river and hills beyond was great and made sitting on the balcony a must. The buffet breakfast was good as they changed the options everyday so it was not just the same each morning.
The Manager, Peter, was extremely welcoming and made you feel as if you were visiting family and not just staying in a hotel. His easy going, but informative, style made for a pleasant stay in Cairns.
Location is perfect near the Esplanade, restaurants, and reef boats.
We went to Cairns and stayed at Double Tree for 6 nights, the hotel facilities were located by the Esplanade, walking distance to nice restaurants and the lagoon, staff was very attentive, the buffet breakfast was excellent. Happy to have chosen this place.
We had a great week in Cairns. The Cairns Colonial was a fab family resort. Kids loved the pool and parents loved drinks by the pool. Food yummy, service was good and laundry easy and accessible. Beds comfy and room features good.
The hotel's location is central to everything. Great to walk around and explore the near by sites and Esplanade. Will return to Cairns and stay here again! The reception staff upon checking in and on the second day were terrific!
Location right in the action of Cairns Esplanade with a breathtaking view of the ocean. Apartment great size for a family if 4.
Overall clean and well maintained for an older apartment with update Kitchen and bathrooms.
I chose the hotel mainly for the location of my Cairns/Atherton region tour, as I didn't want to go to CBD to stay. For the rate of around $95, the room is clean, with the essential facilities.
Beautiful apartment with a fantastic view. So spacious. Had everything we needed.
The location is excellent to restaurants and the marina. A wonderful alternative to a typical hotel room.
Great location right near the Esplanade. The room was very clean and comfortable and we really appreciated the Nespresso machine. Would definitely recommend for a stay in Cairns.
Lovely location, glimpse of water, and the Cairns Wheel and Esplanade were the main view. Most comfortable for the stay.
No noise from the hospitality under the hotel, big plus.
