‘The City of Three Rivers’
Known as the City of Three Rivers, Passau is a beautiful German town in Lower Bavaria crossed by the Danube, Ilz and Inn rivers. Situated near the Austrian border, this university city is home to the biggest cathedral organ in the world with 17,774 pipes and 233 registers.
Built in 1688 by the Italian architect Carlo Lurago, the Baroque St. Stephen's Cathedral has frescoes and paintings by JM Rottmayr. Featuring classic European architecture, the historic Old Town of Passau has small cobbled alleys with picturesque Bavarian cafes and restaurants, as well as a Neo-Gothic tower. You can enjoy a cruise on the Danube River or wonder around the medieval houses that are modified into galleries.
Set between the Danube and Ilz, the 13th-century Castle of Passau was the bishops’ residence for several centuries. Travellers can visit the fortress of Oberhaus and discover interesting museums with potteries, sculptures and paintings.
The Austrian city of Salzburg is about 110 km and Linz Airport is 64.5 km away. Booking.com offers a variety of hotels and guest houses in Passau and the nearby cities of Salzweg, Thyrnau and Kellberg. The Central Railway Station of Passau has trains to Vienna, Budapest, Amsterdam and London.

Passau is a beautiful town where the Donau River joins the other two rivers. It is also the starting point for many Donay cruises. Walking around the town, visiting the Castle, or just strolling around the river walks was an amazingly relaxing experience. We arrived and departed by train, and the station is 10 minutes walking from the city center. It was the place where our river cruise started and ended, and we chose to prolong our stay in town for two nights. We recommend dining early since most of the restaurants will close. For lunch everything is open, but finding a restaurant for dinner might be a struggle. I recommend the restaurant at StadHotel Passau, it is open from breakfast to dinner and they serve typical Bavarian food.GemaUnited States - 10Scored 10

Passau is a beautiful and nice small province bavarian City. Its nice for a weekend gateway with nice local food and friendly people. I would recommend you walk up to the castle on the hill were you can have a nice City view and later walk around the City on the rivers. Amazing. Great. Unbelievable. Great evening/night life. Many restaurants outside in beautiful streets. Some streets are so tiny that it is scary to walk them but I loved it. The meeting of the rivers is beautiful. Also I recommend taking a boat trip to Linz(5hrs).

The old town has a good vibe, helped by the presence of tourists and students from the local university. Charming city on the confluence of Danube, Inn and Ilz rivers. Old town and cathedral are very interesting. Possibility for boat excursions on Danube. Is close to Bavarian Forest, to Austrian and to Czechia, so lots of interesting excursions, as well cultural as in nature.

I have always wanted to see Passau.
I have always wanted to see Passau. We stayed there for three days. I woudl reccomend to climb up Mariahilf for a beautiful view of the old town. It is a perfect place for taking photoes. We had excellent white sausages inthe pub just across the street. Thank to the location of Helen's flat, we had all the main sights within 30 minutes, apart from West Oberhaus and the Mariahilf, of course.ŠŠárkaCzech Republic

We had received excellent check-in instructions so checking-in was not an issue for us. The location is very good as a base to explore Passau and located near to the railway station. The room itself was fine for us - we were only here for 1 night. It was comfortable enough and the bed linen, towels, etc were clean. The checkout was 11:00 which was great for us. That was a plus!

Layout of hotel was a little weird as you had to walk through restaurant to get from entry to the elevator for the rooms but it worked fine. We particularly liked the breakfast (excellent!) and the hotel personnel (especially Julia) were very friendly and professional. Having booked at the last minute, we had a room in a noisier location on the ground floor, but the hotel provided us with ear plugs which was the perfect solution. Very comfortable beds. The hotel is a comfortable and scenic 5-10 minute walk to Passau old town.
