This was a very nice guesthouse in which to stay while I waited for my transport to be ready to elsewhere on the island. The staff were very nice and I'm glad I was able to come to Svalbard and have a place to stay in the middle of winter, from which one day I could watch the northern lights. 🙂

The room was comfy and the view was nice. It came with a private bathroom which is a must if we travel with my wife or with the kids. The kitchen was in front of our room, so we had to "enjoy" the noises and/or the scent of food being prepared, but that's not the biggest problem in the world, so we could live with that. The staff was really kind and helpful too. The location of the hotel is 2 KM from the main area (it's technically a different city/area maybe, called Nybyen). But we like to walk especially in this wonderful area, but it's good to know if you are just planning your stay. The breakfast was simple but we liked it, and we could eat enough for our needs even to be able to hike 14 km on daily average without any problems.

Bearing in mind that it has no real competition, it is still nevertheless a very good hostel. Breakfast pancakes are great, staff are friendly, it is fairly sociable. The rooms are somewhat small, but the kitchen/social area is spacious enough, and in any case if you come to Svalbard for the bedroom then there's really little point.DarrynSolo traveller
